Written vs "effective" — the bit that trips people up. If you're on the Early Years Register only, you must have effective procedures in place but they don't all have to be written down. On the Childcare Register, some must be written. Either way, Ofsted will ask you to explain each one — so having them written is the simplest way to walk in ready. Always check the current EYFS statutory framework for the latest wording.
